Create A Free Page For Your Class ReunionAfter using a site like Reunion.com to get a reunion organized and ready to go, you have to worry about how to make sure people see the page and that they understand what they are seeing. Before setting up anything, make sure no one else is working on it. If they are not, you can then move ahead with doing it on your own, though hopefully with some help. The biggest problem you may have is figuring out how to make sure your classmates find the announcement and get to your reunion page. If you have set up your reunion web page with Reunion.com, you have the option of emailing everyone from your class that has signed up with that site. Other sites may or may not have that option as well. If that is an option, go ahead and send something out so they all see the page. You should also instruct those in your class to pass this along to anyone else they may be in touch with who is not signed up for that site. You should check out other sites to see if you can find anyone from your class, and then send them a link to the site. Also, ask them if they wouldn’t mind passing it along to any classmates they still speak with regularly. You can search places like MySpace or FaceBook to see if anyone pops up there. While there are some that will sign up for more than one site, some people find a place online that makes them feel comfortable, and they may not go much further than that. When it becomes apparent you have some people to find, and you always will, you can try to search each name for an email address. You may not be sure if you are getting the right person, but most will respond and tell you that you should try a different address. Everyone knows what a reunion is, and they also know how hard it is to plan them. If you have found an email address, but have gotten no response after a period of time, you may want to send a follow up. Be sure to label it as such. Sometimes, emails go into spam or bulk folders and people never see them. A follow up may then reach them. Another option for getting the word out about your reunion web page and the reunion itself is to see if your high school has a newsletter or a web site. Most have both these days. You may want to offer up the information and a link to the page in the alumni newsletter if you wish, and you can also see if your school has forums on their site. You can then add your link with more information about the reunion. You also have to remember that not everyone is online, and some people may have moved so far away that their high school is the last thing on their mind. You should make sure you plan early enough so that you can take the time to write to last known addresses of those who do not appear online. You can send them a letter about the reunion, and then include the link to your page at the end. If they don’t own a computer, they probably know someone who does. If they are interested, they can then find the page and let you know if they are coming or not. You can still use old tools like advertising in
local papers about the reunion, and hope that those you could not
reach may see it. What you have to remember is not everyone will
be interested, and some won’t even be interested enough to
tell you that they are not coming. Expect that there will be some
that are lost to you and the rest of your class. You can give it
your best, but after a while you do have to concentrate on making
the reunion the best it can be for those who do want to come. Don’t
get so lost in finding people that you forget your planning duties. |
